When the Wilimington Yoga Center in Wilmington, North Carolina decided to showcase Hot Yoga, they knew they needed to bring the right kind of heat to their studio. They found just what they were looking for with SmartRooms by ThermaRay.

Hot Yoga is one of the fastest growing styles of yoga in the world. Hot yoga is a broad term referring to any form of yoga that is practiced in a heated room between 85-105 degrees.

Wilmington Yoga Center offers a fantastic variety of over 20 signature hot yoga classes weekly to meet the needs of all practitioners from beginner to advanced students, as well as those with specific physical limitations.

Hot Yoga allows for deep, safe stretching and promotes detoxification of the skin, blood and muscles through sweat. The purpose of practicing yoga in a room heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit or 40 degrees Celsius is to maintain a consistent level of warmth and maintain that temperature consistently throughout the space during the workout session.

Why radiant heating systems are needed

Hot air (convection) systems have great difficulty providing a consistent temperature at the floor level where the workout is performed due to convection currents. Hot air rises to the ceiling where it is just wasted. Radiant heat isn't subject to convection currents and can quite easily heat a floor to the desired temperature and do so across the whole studio space.

SmartRooms' Architectural Series heaters, mounted in the ceiling, along with the SmartRooms Comfort Controller was chosen to provide the required temperature and consistency. Since the radiant system was mounted in the ceiling, it did not use valuable floor space or interfere with the occupants' workout regime. The occupants could not injure or burn themselves unlike traditional floor-based heating systems.

Wilmington Yoga Centers recognized the quiet and efficient solution offered by ThermaRay and especially valued the zero maintenance aspect of the SmartRooms system. Using a programmable controller, the temperature can be preset for scheduled sessions, then set back for unoccupied time, thus saving on energy costs. Using fast-acting Architectural Series heaters can quickly raise the temperature to the desired temperature. Ideal for scheduled and unscheduled sessions.

SmartRooms offer similar comfort in homes, offices and many other settings, including luxury boxes at stadiums.
